VISA Regulations

SA VISA Regulations in Africa

Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, Eswatini

A traveller from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) does not require a port of entry visa for visits up to 90 days.

Tanzania

Tanzanian citizens are currently allowed to enter South Africa visa-free for a stay of up to 90 days in the country. However, it is expected that once the South African eVisa system is fully operational, all Tanzanian citizens will be required to obtain an eVisa regardless of the purpose of their visit.

Kenya

Kenyan citizens need a visa to visit South Africa. Currently, Kenyans have to apply for a visa at the South African Embassy.

Uganda

Ugandan citizens need a visa to visit South Africa. Currently, Ugandans have to apply for a visa at the South African Embassy.

Turnaround time for the finalization of a visa application shall be 5 (five) working days-) processing period may go beyond the 5 working days in case the application is queried).

Any applicant for a visa may be requested to be interviewed, whenever it appears necessary.

Ethiopia

Ethiopian citizens are currently required to obtain a visa at the embassy or consulate in order to travel to South Africa.

DRC

Foreigners subject to South African visa control who wish to visit the RSA for holiday, business or transit purposes must be in possession of valid and acceptable passports/travel documents and visas. Visas must be obtained at the agency duly authorised to receive applications on behalf of the South African Mission.

In terms of this new system all short-stay visitors visas to South Africa, that is to say for 90 days or less, issued on ordinary or private passports, regardless of the purpose of the visit, must be submitted at the new South African Visa Application Centres in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi.

Visa applications are received from 08h00 to 13h00, Monday to Friday, except for public holidays observed by the Embassy of South Africa. The cut-off time for an applicant to enter the application centre for submission of an application is 12h30.

Delivery of passports with visas is done from Monday to Friday from 13h30 to 16h00, except holidays observed by the South African Embassy.

Processing time for visas is 5-10 working days.
